Our Programs
FPAM delivers youth-led, rights-based sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) programs across Malawi, combining service delivery, advocacy, and community empowerment.

Programs We Implement
Explore our key programs that promote youth leadership, access to quality SRHR services, and community resilience.

Youth Action Movement (YAM)
Established in 2005, the Youth Action Movement (YAM) is FPAM’s youth-led structure and part of the wider IPPF Federation. YAM promotes meaningful youth participation by transforming young people from passive recipients of services into innovators and implementers of SRHR interventions that respond to their real needs.
YAM Malawi operates in Lilongwe, Dowa, Neno, Dedza, Ntcheu, Mangochi, Machinga, Kasungu, Mzuzu, Zomba, and Mchinji, and in tertiary institutions including Chancellor College, Mzuzu University, Mzuzu Technical College, and Domasi College.

Comprehensive SRHR and Medical Services
FPAM delivers integrated, client-centered SRHR and medical services to all populations, with special focus on underserved communities. Through this work, FPAM complements government efforts to reduce maternal deaths, teenage pregnancies, school dropouts, early marriages, gender-based violence, infant mortality, and HIV prevalence, while promoting Youth-Friendly Health Services (YFHS).
Services are delivered by well-trained staff and volunteers, including Community-Based Distribution Agents, Peer Educators, Peer Navigators, and Outreach Workers, ensuring quality, efficiency, and respectful care. Young people aged 10–24 years and people living with HIV and AIDS actively participate in service programming.

Advocacy for Youth SRHR
Advocacy is a core pillar of FPAM’s work and is aligned with Outcome Four of the FPAM Strategic Plan. Advocacy is integrated across almost all FPAM projects, with a strong focus on promoting youth access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights. Through advocacy, FPAM works to influence policies, strengthen accountability, and amplify youth voices at community and national levels.

Youth Life Centers
To promote access to quality, comprehensive, and integrated SRHR and medical services, FPAM operates 8 multipurpose clinics branded as Youth Life Centers. These centers provide a safe, youth-friendly environment offering SRHR services, general medical care, and Antiretroviral Therapy (ART).

Emergency and Humanitarian SRHR Response
FPAM responds to emergency situations by integrating SRHR and sanitation services into humanitarian responses. This includes providing support to young people and communities affected by disasters such as Cyclone Idai, ensuring continuity of essential SRHR services during crises.

Partnerships, Funding, and Implementation Approach
FPAM’s SRHR programs are supported primarily through core, unrestricted funding resulting from its affiliation with the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), alongside restricted funding from partners including DFID, GIZ, Global Affairs Canada (GAC), the Global Fund, and Rutgers.
FPAM operates in 14 administrative districts: Balaka, Dedza, Dowa, Karonga, Kasungu, Lilongwe, Mangochi, Machinga, Mchinji, Mzuzu, Neno, Nkhata Bay, Ntcheu, and Salima. The organization works closely with District Health Offices to plan and implement services, particularly outreach clinics conducted within public health facility catchment areas.
