FPOP was founded on August 4, 1969, through the merger of two pioneering organizations — FPAP and PPMP — with a shared goal to make family planning accessible for all.

Our Story
Over Two Decades of Advocacy and Impact
Family Planning Association of Malawi (FPAM) was established in 1999 with the goal of expanding access to quality family planning and sexual and reproductive health services for all Malawians.

Family Planning Association of Malawi (FPAM) was founded to expand access to family planning and sexual and reproductive health information and services for all Malawians.


Legal Registration in Malawi And Affiliation with IPPF
FPAM was officially registered with the Government of Malawi through the NGO Board (Registration No. NGO/R/04/022), strengthening its mandate to operate nationwide.
Expansion of SRHR Services
FPAM scaled up integrated Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services, targeting young people aged 10–24, men, women, children, and key populations.


Reaching Key and Vulnerable Populations
The organization strengthened programs for people living with HIV and female sex workers, promoting inclusive and equitable access to health services.
Nationwide Presence Across 3 Regions
FPAM expanded operations to 19 districts across Malawi’s Northern, Central, and Southern regions.


Strengthening Youth-Focused Impact
FPAM enhanced youth-friendly services and community outreach, delivering large-scale SRHR, family planning, and HIV services nationwide.
