{"id":1931,"date":"2020-11-05T13:17:27","date_gmt":"2020-11-05T10:17:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rhu.or.ug\/?p=1931"},"modified":"2026-02-12T13:33:26","modified_gmt":"2026-02-12T13:33:26","slug":"rhu-scoops-big-at-the-prestigious-2020-fire-awards","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/dev.qrolic.com\/rhu-block-theme\/news\/rhu-scoops-big-at-the-prestigious-2020-fire-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"RHU SCOOPS BIG AT THE PRESTIGIOUS 2020 FIRE AWARDS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">RHU SCOOPS BIG AT THE PRESTIGIOUS 2020 FIRE AWARDS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reproductive Health Uganda (RHU) was last evening crowned champions (NGO category) of the prestigious, 2020 Integrated Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards, held on Wednesday November 04<sup>th<\/sup>\/2020 at Skyz Hotel, Naguru.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unlike the previous editions, this year\u2019s awards were held virtually in light of the COVID-19 social distancing guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wilberforce Ojiambo, the director of finance at RHU attributes this achievement to team work and coordination at RHU. RHU has been one of the top contenders of this award in the previous years, taking lead for now the record 3<sup>rd<\/sup> time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Over time, we have continuously improved the quality of our reporting and built on the comments from the organizers to make things better. So much so that every other subsequent report is better than the previous ones in one aspect or the other&#8221; added Ojiambo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">According ICPAU our report was considered great based on the following parameters.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">o&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Effective communication and presentation of the program and financial information<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">o&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Excellent presentation and outlook of the report including great graphics.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">o&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Innovations including developing and sustaining growth in grant income, local income and institutional reserves.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">o&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Ability to provide services to the locals including the most vulnerable members of the community.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">o&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Ability to attract new development partners and also increase the asset base.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">o&nbsp; Comprehensiveness including our ability to report on all functional aspects and departments of the institution.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wilberforce stated that the award was of great importance and would the institution to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">Gain confidence from the external audit teams<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">Motivation for the institution to settle for clean and unqualified audits<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">Work as a drive for continuous improvement in general reporting<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">Greatly enhance RHU&#8217;s status during due diligence processes by new partners aspiring to work with us.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">Provided confidence for participation in related awards such as the Finance Team of the year, where we emerged runners up last year.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">&#8220;We are indeed motivated and encouraged by these results and do promise to continue delivering on the same.&#8221; Says Wilberforce&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft wp-image-1933 size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"505\" height=\"514\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.qrolic.com\/rhu-block-theme\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/fire-award-3.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1933\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dev.qrolic.com\/rhu-block-theme\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/fire-award-3.jpeg 505w, https:\/\/dev.qrolic.com\/rhu-block-theme\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/fire-award-3-295x300.jpeg 295w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 505px) 100vw, 505px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The RHU finance team receiving the award<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President of ICPAU, Mr.Fredrick Wanumeli thanked the participants and the organisations that submitted their annual reports for evaluation,inspite of the COVID-19 challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIntegrated reporting helps to increase the preparedness of organisations to access long term financing through the capital markets, by providing the appropriate disclosures as well as evidence of prudent corporate governance, which are key in attracting investors\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt shows commitment to upholding standards of financial reporting, an indicator of strong organisational culture\u201d-Wanumeli commended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The awards, which are organized by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) strive to uplift the quality of financial and business reporting in Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards is an annual event organized by ICPAU in partnership with CMA, USE).
